Trust me, you will enjoy it and it will get you thinking!
Today I read the NASA blog, "Think Your Stressed? Try Being The Rocket" after reading that blog, I think it would be stressful! I could not imagine even being one of the astronauts and I thought that would be stressful, but I imagined being the rocket and I was wowed. I imagined being launched in to space and weighing millions of pounds. Once I took that in to consideration, I realized that it would be incredible. I thought the blog was great, I enjoyed reading it. Everyone who reads this should read the blog, I am going to put the link here:
Trust me, you will enjoy it and it will get you thinking!
In the beginning of the video, Bill Nye gives us some basics facts on space. For example, "everything in space is made up of the same things as us.", "a light year travels 300 000 km per second" and "everything in space is really far apart." Afterword, they showed us some examples of how far apart everything in space really was. They showed us by using a soccer field and mini soccer balls for planets. Later in the video, they told us information on stars, such as, " a star might be burned out, but the light is still coming towards us. We can only see it because its still travelling", "the nearest star from the sun is so far away, that you would not be able to get to it if it took your whole life", and "stars are in groups but they are so far away that they look singular". Shortly after that, Bill told us the story of how someone walked from Alexandria to Cena, just to measure the Earth. (it is 40 000 km, the distance around the Earth is circomfrance) To wrap up the video, they showed us a science song about space.
Earth is the largest of the terrestrial planets.
Only planet not to be named after a Roman or Greek god.
The name Earth is a English/German name that means "ground".
Earth is the 3rd planet from the sun.
Earth is the densest planet.
Did you know summer and winter on Neptune last 41 Earth years, compared to Earths seasons that last about 2 1/2 months!
Neptune is named after Roman mythology, Poseidon, because Poseidon is the god of the sea and Neptune is blue. Neptune is also the farthest planet from the sun. Neptune has no unusual orbit, but, it does take 164.79 years for it to orbit the sun! It takes 1 day, 15 hours and 59 seconds, to orbit on its axis. For such a heavy object, that is not to bad because its mass is 102.4E24 kg and 24,622 km is size! (Earth is 17.15 kg!) The force of gravity on Neptunes surface is 110% of the surface gravity on Earth. Did you know that if you weigh 100 pounds on earth, you will weigh 110 on Neptune? Neptune is made up of hydrogen and helium, as well as some methane. Methane is what gives Neptune its blue tint. Neptune also has a thick atmosphere because of strong winds and icy weather. Because of how icy the weather is, Neptune is very cold. On average, Neptune is about -353 fahrenheit! Earths coldest weather was -128.6 in Antarctica. Neptune is a gas giant and an ice giant, it is also one of the most dense gas giants. Neptunes internal composition is various ice and rock with about 15% hydrogen and a little helium. Like I said before, Neptune is blue and it also has a dark blue spot. Neptune has 14 discovered moons that were all discovered in 1989. In 1989, they also found Neptunes 5 dust rings. If you are on Neptune without a suit, you would die after 5 minutes because of the chemicals, the main problem being, amonia clouds.
The scale of Neptune is 49,244 km which is almost 4 times the size of our planet, Earth. Earths diameter is 12,756 km. Do you know what Neptunes structure is? The structure of Neptune is made up of ammonia clouds, ammonium hydrosulfide clouds, water clouds, liquid layers and water drops. Do you know what Earths structure is? There is the crust, the core and the mantle. Neptune is 4.503 billion years old! Do you know how old the universe is? The universe is 14 billion years old! Earth is a lot younger then that, it is 4.543 billion years!
On Neptune, the weather is typically -353 fahrenheit, compared to earth, at its coldest is -128.6! (in Antarctica) After five minutes on Neptune with out a suit, you would die. If a chemical were to enter your body, you would die because Neptune is made of methane. If you weigh 100 pounds on earth, you will weigh 110 pounds on Neptune. Neptunes surface gravity is about the same as Earths surface gravity because Neptune is made up of gas and it is not as solid as Earth is.
1. What is gravity
Gravity is a force that holds objects down and that is made up of particles called "Gravitrons". "Gravitrons" travel at the speed of light! A Gravitron is a particle that is supposed to be mass-less. Gravity is the thing that keeps us on the ground and prevents us from floating up. With out gravity, everything would be floating and it would be hard to do much.
2. Describe the position, motion and components of our solar system
Our sun lies in the middle of our solar system, the motion of our solar earth depends on where you are and how close you are to the equator. But the SOLAR system is moving at 230 km, the solar system is moving in the centre of the galaxy. The earth is rotating around the sun, the sun is rotates around the galaxy and the galaxy rotates around the centre of the universe. Some of the major components of our solar system are planets, comets, asteroids, and the moon. All the components are what makes space.
3. Tell us some interesting facts on space.
-Did you know that Mercury, Venus, Mars and Earth are mostly made up of iron and rock, they are also the 4 inner planets.
-The sun is 4.6 billion years old!
-The Earth is 4.543 billion years old, not as old as the sun, but really close!
-The Earth is 149.6 million km away from the sun.
-The sun is the same size as every other star, but it just seems larger because it is close to us then all the others.
